For The Record: The Testimonies of Mary Magdalene and Judas Iscariot
Because of how the Bible has been interpreted, which many inattentive people including Christians have repeated, Mary Magdalene and Judas Iscariot have been regarded as immoral criminals in the minds of many people.
The crime for which Mary was sentenced by the court of public opinion is that of prostitution. Somebody said she was one and the judgment stuck fast, even though no biblical evidence exists to support this accusation. To phrase the matter differently: Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute.
The criminal allegation accusing Judas Iscariot of being a thief has been able to endure for two reasons. He was keeper of his group’s moneybag and because one solitary voice in the Bible accused him of stealing.
Judas never received the chance to speak of his own behalf, and only the Gospel of John allows Mary’s voice to be heard, but in For the Record: The Testimonies of Mary Magdalene and Judas Iscariot, Mary and Judas finally get to have their day in court.
